Is there a special technique to serging a bias edge?

Every time I serge a bias edge the stitching will not hold on the fabric. The cutter cuts, but no stitches are formed. I am able to serge the non bias edge.|||You may not be putting the fabric in far enough or you are putting it in too far in which case the stitches are being cut as you sew.
