I'm in high school. My english teacher graded my english writing portfolio in a bias manner. I have looked at other people's work and it is like two different people grading the assignment. She wrote several off base, irrevelent, and stupid comments on my paper, and she has not written any comments like that on other people's paper.
My mom said I should redo the project and turn it in again. I think that is ridiculous, why should I redo something that the teacher messed up?
I printed out new (unaltered) copies of the work and asked the teacher to regrade it or look at it again. She gave me a look like "what do you want me to do with this?"
What is the best way to handle this? Remember, high school english teacher.|||You could show her the graded paper and ask her to elaborate on her comments. You could explain that you really care about your work and would like to know how to fix any errors in your writing. Then, based on her reaction, you'd have to decide what to do from there. Good luck.|||Have your principal check your work without seeing the grade you received from your teacher. If your principal has a different view, then let your principal know.|||Tell her boss!!!!!!!|||The best way to deal with it is to just deal with it. Call it a life lesson it will continue to happen to you through out life. You are going to encounter people who either honestly don't get you and what your saying or just have a problem with you in general. not only that but you will also at some point do this to other people. Most often it will, I hope, be unintentional. So chalk this one up to good karma because you accepted that your teacher is human and you will not always agree with her.|||I would say speak to the principal, and do it in a mature manner (though from your tone it seems you won't have problems there). If she continues to do this, you may want to transfer to another class. No use risking your grades (and educational future) just to annoy her.|||I'm with your mom. Take your teacher's criticism as constructive and make changes to your paper accordingly. You should also ask the teacher what she meant by the comments you deem to be "off-base, irrelevant, and stupid." Perhaps she's got a reasonable explanation for the comments that you just don't see because you're miffed at your grade.|||That is really awful. Personally, I think that teachers should never be bias on a students work, no matter how well behaved or badly behaved they are in class, what race or gender they are, or what there family background is (i.e. if a kid had a bad older sibling and the teacher was all mean to that kid).
Since this is a a high school teacher, you can't just go and complain with your mom after school. You should go to your teacher before or after class with a note explaining that you think what your teacher is doing is unfair and unjust and you would like to hear why she is doing this rudeness to you. Tell her to please read and contemplate your note and to please accept it.
Hope this advice helps.
