How do I apply bias tape to a quilt block?

I have 12x12 sqaures and am adding a diamond shape 4x4 square to the center, and wanted to add a border to that center 4x4 diamond shape. I have bought double and single sided bias tape and I am about to pull my hair out...I have no idea how to do this! No one in my family can sew and I don't know what to do to learn how to finish this quilt.|||You really do not need bias cut binding for straight edge application. Most quilters cut their own binding. For a narrow binding, cut a 20" strip 1" wide.

Here is how to apply double or French binding - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INh6sVKJR鈥?/a> The video will also show you how to make an easy mitered corner. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INh6sVKJR鈥?/a>

Here is another tutorial for hand cut as well as the packaged binding - http://www.sewing.org/html/biasbinding.h鈥?/a>

The binding will hold the 4 x 4 block above the 12 x 12 block.

For a smoother installation, you could add a border to the 4 x 4 and then add strips to achieve the final 12 x 12.

If 4 x 4 and 12 x 12 are the finished sizes, you need to add 1/2" when cutting the blocks as the traditional seam allowance for piecing a quilt is 1/4".
